MOTHERS MEETING ANTENATAL EVENT

Us ladies right here at the MM HQ not only like to make lives that million times more awesome for new mums we also like to help out passionate women - mothers or not! So when the lovely Daisy was interested in becoming a Midwife (YEP SHE IS NOW STUDYING, AFTER GETTING ON A SUPER HARD COURSE), Daisy approached us and asked if she could join in our Mothers Meetings - and get ahead of her college application by finding out what it’s really like to be a mamma physically and emotionally. YES YES YES! Of course we allowed her to join in - her enthusiasm and passion was more than enough to prove that she had what it takes to me a MOTHERS MEETING CHICKA!

Daisy - joined us at our HYPER GLAM - ANTENATAL EVENT AT ST MARTINS LANE HOTEL.
This is her very own account of what she encountered.

I knew the Mother’s Meetings Antenatal Workshop wasn’t going to be your usual- it was taking place in a 5* London hotel after all- and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

The setting was sophisticated and glamourous as promised, which I’m sure was a lovely treat for the pregnant ladies who may not have been feeling that way since pre-bump; there was an instant laid back and friendly vibe with everyone introducing themselves and chatting over a cup of coffee or tea (the rhubarb and custard flavour was amazing!).

After a brief intro to the day, midwife Clemmie got down to business and explained all things pregnancy and birth related. She ensured that the men got involved too and encouraged everyone to ask any questions they had, no matter how silly they may seem, and everyone did.

Jenny stuck with the Mother’s Meetings trademark style and was completely honest in discussing the feelings and emotions she experienced during and after her pregnancy; she spoke openly about the fact that she didn’t have a clue what to expect when she was pregnant with her son and reassured everyone that they had nothing to worry about- “I didn’t even know what a contraction was”- and that if she can do it then anyone can!

Together Jenny and Clemmie dispelled all must-have fad products and gave useful and productive information on what should be packed in hospital bags (key tip: keep it simple) and spoke about how women can prepare for the first few weeks after they’ve given birth; my favourite bit of advise was “cook food and freeze it, buy lots of TV and DVD box sets and allow no visitors for the first week”. I’m sure I noticed a few men sit up at this point, secretly excited by the prospect of endless TV dinners (silly them).

After a couple of hours of listening and talking lunch was welcomed by all, and it was worth the wait; stacks of Asia de Cuba afternoon tea was spread around the huge table for couples to share, with complementing teas to go with the savoury and sweet delights (and beer for the men who wanted it!).

With everyone fed and watered the workshop continued with talks from pelvic floor expert Jenny Russell and yoga specialist Coleen Meier, both of whom gave detailed information and demonstrations of exercises that can and should be carried out during pregnancy. Everyone had a go and were able to ask any questions they had.

The whole day was an extremely enjoyable and thoroughly informative experience, and we all took one thing away from the day (two if you include the amazing goody bags).. The ability to say the word VAGINA openly and without being embarrassed!!! Thank you Jenny Russell.
