Petersham Nursery Mothers Meeting

we could just tell you all that our Mothers Meetings are OUTTA control and totally amazing (which they are). But rather than blowing our own trumpets we’d rather you hear it from the horses mouth. So we’ve invited the lovely Clemmie Telford to tell you herself… Oh and don’t forget to check out her blog HERE

Its one of those mornings: you wake upknackered and its pis@!? with rain. Can I be bothered to trek with a buggy to the other side of London? Daddy is on toddler-duty; that in it-self is reason enough to get out the house.

At Richmond station I bump into another Mum. Although we haven’t meet before, we are both out of our usual postcode, and have time to spare, so decided to walk the final bit of the journey. Error. A 20-minute strollbecomes an epic adventure: over styles, battling Mother Nature, avoiding massive cows.

We arrive soaked and bedraggled. But are thankfully greeted by a gaggle of Mothers Meeting Lovelies and basket of yummy cake from the bakery. Not to mention the venue itself. Those who haven’t been to Petersham absolutely should, even, on a dreary day it is magical. Little tables and chair tucked inside greenhouses full of the most gorgeous plants.

Then we were introduced to the fabulous Tom and his beautiful assistant Amanda. They were brilliant. I’m always a little bit in awe of people who are passionate and knowledgeable.

They taught us about potting. In particular how to make a ‘Pimms Planter’ – that’s one with wild strawberries, mint and borage in it. Now we’re taking! And answered all those questions you always wanted to know, but were too embarrassed to ask: like ‘how do you actually arrange flowers?’ (You cross the stalks). And even cleared up confusion about the perennial vs. perineum, you can tell they were surrounded Mums!

After a break for boobing, changing and general nattering, we had a go at making our very own edible bouquet to take away. Tulips and Hawthorn not only look pretty they can be made into salad too, who knew?

Suddenly three hours have flown by and it was time to head off. Needless to say I opted to get the bus back! By the time I got home the sun had come out. And that is Mothers Meeting at it’s best: meeting great people and learning new stuff makes even the shittiest days of motherhood better.
