This fab review is by the brilliant ALEX MUSTAFA AKA @ASIDEORDEROFME

This was not my first Mothers Meetings rodeo, as someone who has attended quite a few of their events, faces have become familiar, smiles personal and that murky air of “Gosh I do not know anyone, will they get my Chandler Bing humour and my sparkly shoes” has faded.

Today however was a special one. I got to hot foot it without my toddler to Bayswater to the newly renovated Queens Skate, Dine and Bowl to celebrate two years of the wonderful Carrie at Mère Soeur setting up shop.

A shop so perfectly apt for Mothers Meetings as it is all about sisterhood and supporting each other. A shop created by a single mum working with every ounce of energy and caffeine to create items that make you scream “Oh my god she gets me” and “I need to wear this pin to remind myself daily”.

If I am honest, upon entering the venue the 90s teen in me did a little yippee. It had all the charm of a seriously cool rock bar, minus the Snake Bite Black sticky floors. It was of course modernised with a rather impressive Selfie mirror which I am sure pleased many an Instagrammer.

Mothers Meetings and Dazzle and Fizz styled out an area in a Mère Soeur meets Beetlejuice bling kind of way and If there had not been any children at the event I would have probably nabbed some of the epic giant balloons by 3 bubblegumgirls and Oooh Balloons. For my toddler of course….

No table is a party table without the creative mastery of Other Letters providing clever decorations and quirky straws and the floristry by Early Hours ltd was subtle and sexy and the kind of plants I could not cause harm too (More purple less green fingers)

It was a different experience for me not having my toddler there. I was able to converse without giving the side eye. I didn’t flash my pants grabbing my toddler It was really nice for me to power down and immerse myself in adult conversation. The little things…

Then came the food. I could sing in the style of Kate Bush at how delicious it was.

Meat Liquor, I am sure anyone in love with a good dirty burger will know the name. If you do not, then you must head over to Meatgram and say your Hail Marys.

Burgers, mac n cheese bites, onion rings and fried gherkins oh my.

This was not a meal to be taken lightly, it was a thrust your hips with great force and embrace the naughtiness kind of meal.

And then we bowled. I use this term lightly as I am less Paulette from Grease 2 and more Barney the dinosaur. My bowling ended quickly and I became the cheerleader instead. It was fun, really fun and what a great way to celebrate the totally deserving Mère Soeur.

Thrusting and bowling aside, there is a lot to be said about being in a room full of mums. A room full of people all going through the different versions of the same journey. Once you get over the initial feeling of potential shyness or not knowing anyone anxiety you realise that it is really is just a pretty cool army of women and potentially some mums that become your comrades for life.
