MM X SHOREDITCH HOUSE REVIEW BY AFUA ADOM

As a recently returned to work mum of one getting the right work/life
balance is something that I feel I have been struggling to do. Coupled with the stress of going back to work is the constant guilt that I feel - guilt that I’m not spending enough time with my little one, guilt that I’m only working part-time and not contributing enough to the household, guilt that I haven’t lost the baby weight - everything! So when I was invited to a Mothers Meeting session addressing working mums I knew this is something I needed.

The speakers - Sharmadean Reid, Polly Williams, Clemey Hooper and of course our very own Jenny - were on hand to put things into perspective and to remind us that we are superwomen trying to do it all and sometimes things will slip and hey that’s okay. It was great to sit in a room full of like-minded women, some on maternity leave and some not and all be on the same page. Tips were given about how to strike a better balance and I was inspired by girls I already knew and some I just met to really fulfill my working potential not
just for my baby but for me aswell. I think sometimes in the exhausting,
bewildering haze of motherhood we sometimes forget that not just being mums we are women too; we are Afua or Jenny or Clemey or Polly and we matter too.

This session was great for reminding me of that and really helped
me think about work and motherhood differently and ultimately more positively. To me striking the right work/life balance is making work work around and for you and your baby not the the way round.

That’s got to be a good thing right?
