New App Connects Like-Minded Parents Living Nearby

ParentsNearby matches parents by location, children’s ages, and shared interests

(London) – In a city like London, every new parent can find approximately 700 other new parents within a 10-minute walk of their home*, yet developing friendships with other parents can be challenging. Launching soon, the mobile app “ParentsNearby” seeks to solve this problem by helping parents connect with other parents living near them, who have children of similar age and share interests and connections on social media networks.

Founder Thomas Souza created the app after seeking to build a local network of friendly parents during his year of paternity leave.

Souza said: “I realised as a stay at home Dad that it really does ‘take a village to raise a child’, but there was no tool to help me find like-minded parents in my area. ParentsNearby can make connecting with other parents much easier, offering the flexibility of browsing on your mobile when you have just one free hand.

ParentsNearby is a free mobile app available for iPhone and Android, including features:

–       Personalised profile page with privacy controls.

–       Facebook and LinkedIn login to match parents with shared interests and connections.

–       Customised search to identify like-minded parents by location and children’s ages.

–       Instant messaging to immediately communicate with suggested parents nearby.

Annie, a mum of a six-month old living in the UK, said: “It was a lot of work to meet other new parents when I had my baby, but the app can really help because all the users want to meet new, like-minded parents near them and can easily find friends of friends.”

Souza’s app advisors included new and established parents, digital experts, midwives and doulas.

Souza said: “A few weeks ago I met a dad at our local playground. We learned that our daughters were the same age, we looked after them on the same weekday, and we lived in the same area. But we failed to exchange details and unfortunately I haven’t bumped into him again. If ParentsNearby had already been launched, we would certainly be able to find each other again more easily.”
